Why Calli? The meaning of our name
Calli is a nahuatl word (one -and probably the most important- of the 65 languages spoken in Mexico nowadays) that involves a lot of meanings. It is used to designate a living unit: a house but also, in a metaphoric way, it implies hospitality or the gathering of friends and relatives in a special place in the community.
Although Calli is the word used for home, if you add a prefix you may say acalli for boat, teocalli for temple, cencalli for a group of houses, cuicacalli, house of songs and music or tepochcalli, school for practical and military studies.
At Calli we want you to feel as if you were at home. May our food remind you of awsome vacations in our beautiful Mexican sun or the flavour and seasoning of an original Mexican kitchen, being far from home.
